The water supply of some residents in a County Durham town may be affected after a burst water pipe caused water to shoot into the air and onto passing vehicles.
Northumbrian Water has confirmed its crews are on site at the junction of the A68 and Consett Road in Castleside, near Consett.
Images and videos from the scene show water shooting high out of the pipe, onto the road and into oncoming vehicles.
It is not yet known at this time what has caused the burst, although Durham County Council confirmed it was made aware of it around 8pm last night.
Northumbrian Water said a "small number of customers" may be affected by the burst pipe.
A spokesperson for the water company said: "Our crews are currently on site at a burst at the junction of the A68 and Consett Road in Castleside.
"The burst was on one of our larger 12-inch water pipes which resulted in a significant amount of surface water.
"Repairs to the pipe are now underway and we’ll be working to get the road back to normal as quickly as possible. Temporary four-way traffic lights are in place while this work is carried out.

"A small number of customers may be affected but we are currently working to install a temporary supply of water.
"We’d like to thank our customers and motorists for their patience while we carry out this essential work."
Mark Readman, Durham County Council’s head of highway services, said: "We were made aware of the burst water main at around 8pm last night and our emergency team attended to erect a cordon in the area for the public’s safety and help with the flow of traffic. Northumbrian Water attended the site at around 10pm and took control of the site."
