Across the North East, and throughout the UK, Christmas markets are already in full swing, filling cities with the smell of mulled wine, roasting chestnuts and sweet pastries.
Europe’s markets are lighting up historic plazas with twinkling stalls, hand-crafted gifts, vintage carousels, and cosy winter traditions that date back centuries.
Whether you’re dreaming of wandering through streets lined with wooden chalets, sampling regional delicacies, or picking up unique artisan decorations, there’s still time to soak in the festive atmosphere before the big day arrives.
We’ve rounded up five destinations you can fly to directly from Newcastle Airport in the run up to Christmas — perfect for anyone looking to squeeze in one last dose of holiday cheer at some truly magical Christmas markets.
Berlin
Flights to Berlin from Newcastle are available from £37, with Jet2 operating every Thursday and Sunday.
Berlin has many Christmas markets including on Alexanderplatz and Potsdamer Platz. The Alexanderplatz Christmas market is the city's busiest, with over 100 stalls and a wide variety Christmas gifts and food on offer.
The Christmas markets run until December 26 and December 31.
Budapest
Budapest was announced as a new Christmas market destination by Jet2 in February this year.
Flights start from £18, with Ryanair also operating to the Hungarian capital.
The city's main Christmas markets are at Vorosmarty Square and St. Stephen's Basilica. The Vorosmarty is the oldest Christmas market in the city where you can buy handcrafted items as well as food and drink.
Copenhagen
Copenhagen's Christmas market was actually brought forward to mid-November this year, as opposed to starting later.
You can fly to the Danish capital with Jet2 on Monday's and Friday's, and with Norwegian Airlines on Friday's and Sunday's.
The Tivoli Christmas market is the city's most visited and is open until January 4, 2026.
There are plenty of Christmas lights, trees and about 50 stalls, as well as carousels and attractions.
Krakow
Whilst not the capital of Poland, Krakow has become more and more popular with Brits over the last few years.
And it has a great selection of Christmas markets. The main one is located in the Old Town square and is one of the largest in Europe.
Jet2 flies to Krakow on Monday's and Friday's, but Ryanair flies to the city six days a week. Flights are available from £18.

Prague
