Raval in Gateshead named in British Indian Good Food Guide 2025

Raval Indian Brasserie & Bar, in Gateshead, was named and gained the accolade earlier this month, recognising it as one of the nation’s most exceptional restaurants.

The announcement places Newcastle and Gateshead firmly on the culinary map, as Raval becomes the first restaurant from the North East to receive the Guide’s top national distinction.

Situated beside the Tyne Bridge, moments from the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead and The Glasshouse International Music Centre, Raval impressed the independent editors with its "refined approach to modern Indian cuisine, blending authenticity, precision, and northern warmth".

The Guide’s editors praised Raval’s tasting-led menu, describing it as a reflection of “refined technique, clarity of flavour, and confident restraint”.

The British Indian Good Food Guide 2025 celebrates excellence across the UK’s top 100 Indian restaurants, honouring culinary creativity, consistency, and community contribution.

Raval’s selection as National Champion acknowledges both its kitchen’s craft and its long-standing commitment to flying the flag for the North East on a national stage.

The restaurant has been previously recognised at the national level, including among the Top 100 Asian Restaurants in the UK at a House of Lords ceremony earlier this year, as well as the winners of Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year at the Asian Restaurant Awards 2025.
