Radio 2's Sara Cox arrives in Wolsingham on Children in Need challenge

The broadcaster was all smiles as she stepped foot in Wolsingham for her 'Great Northern Marathon Challenge' on Tuesday evening (November 11).

Carrying a Pudsey Bear backpack, Sara greeted fans of all ages who had lined the streets ahead of her arrival - with some even donning their own little Pudsey ears.

It marks the end of the second day of Sara's gruelling journey, which will see her travel 135 miles, the equivalent of five marathons, in five days.

Having kicked off at Kielder Forest yesterday, Sara is running, jogging, and walking through four counties before finally finishing in Pudsey, Leeds, on Friday.

Sara, who presents Radio 2’s weekday teatime show, also delighted punters in The Travellers Rest, in Slaley, Northumberland earlier on Tuesday morning when she popped in for a quick pit stop.

Landlord Jeremy Irving, who has run the pub for 27 years with wide Lucy, said crews arrived at 8.30am to get set up ahead of her arrival. 

The 65-year-old publican said: “Sara came in just after 9am with Pudsey in tow. She was soaking wet and she came in and sat in front of the fire to get warm. 

“She was lovely, she was really nice - and she must have been knackered.”

The duo were joined by members of the Whitley Chapel Young Farmers Club, who handed over a giant cheque of £400 to Sara. 

“She was really pleased with it”, Jeremy said. “Children in Need is such a brilliant charity and it is good to see that the money raised is used in a decent way.”

Sara’s challenge is Radio 2’s longest-ever by duration, and Cox’s fellow presenters are offering her support during their shows while sharing messages from listeners and guests.

Cameras will follow her along the journey, creating an hour-long broadcast which will be available to watch on iPlayer next Wednesday (November 19).

Radio 2 presenter Paddy McGuinness, who raised £10.3 million for Children in Need last year with his cycle challenge, previously told how he and the rest of the Radio 2 team will be "supporting her every step of the way".
