A man has indicated a guilty plea to causing death by dangerous driving following a fatal collision in Durham in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Emergency services were called to Neville’s Cross on the A167 in Durham following reports of a collision between a woman and a car at around 2am.
The 22-year-old woman was taken to the RVI in Newcastle but died a short time later.
Liam Bowes has also been charged with perverting the course of justice, driving without insurance, and failing to stop after a road accident.
The 37, of Bradyll Street, Kelloe, Durham, indicated guilty pleas when he appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court.
'Indicating' a plea means the defendant informs the court of how they intend to plead, but it is not binding. A formal plea will be entered at a later date.
During Sunday's incident, the road was closed overnight with several police vehicles and ambulance teams in attendance.

Bowes, who runs his own motor mechanic business, was released on conditional bail, but the prosecution appealed the ruling, resulting in the bail application being heard by a Crown Court judge later this week.
He will attend a pre-trial preparation hearing on November 25.
Three other people - two men aged 38 and a 59-year-old woman - were also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
They have been released on bail while further enquiries are carried out.
