James May has revealed that he and fellow co-hosts of Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond, once had a death pact on the BBC show.
The three left Top Gear in 2015 to go and host The Grand Tour on Prime Video from 2016 to 2024.
They drove through deserts, mountains, jungles… in one final road trip, where Clarkson, Hammond, and May wrapped up their journey in One For The Road last year.
Now, speaking to Alexander Armstrong on Channel 4's Perfect Pub Walks, May touched on how the three would go about announcing that one of the others had died.
He told the Pointless host: "We used to joke on Top Gear that if one of us died, for whatever reason, that the other two would have to say 'I'm terribly sorry to have to tell you that Jeremy Clarkson died last night', but the next word had to be 'anyway'."
Armstrong found this hilarious.
May continued: "We all agreed, 'Anyway, here is the new Ford Focus'."

James May's favourite Grand Tour episode
On a recent podcast, he was asked which memory, out of the many that the trio presented, stood out above all else: "Beach buggies. There was a moment when we were in Namibia, where I got separated from the other two because I had some sort of small problem with the ignition or whatever.
"And I drove across over the sea inland across the sand dunes as the sun was going down, on my own, in a beach buggy, and I remember it was a magical moment.
"It was great fun and I also thought, I never ever predicted this, you know. At the age of 15 or even 20, if someone had said, 'What's the most unlikely scenario you're going to end up with, as a job?' I could never have conjured that up."
