A thug who repeatedly kicked his dad’s girlfriend in the face during a fight following a funeral has walked free from court.
A judge told Dominic Smith that although he didn’t start the fight, he ‘certainly ended it’ when he kicked her in the face three times after knocking her to the ground.
Teesside Crown Court heard trouble flared after the group spent the day drinking after a family funeral in Middlesbrough.
Shaun Dryden, prosecuting, said Smith kicked the woman unconscious leaving her with a fractured jaw, and having to have her wisdom teeth removed.
He said: “A neighbour called the police after hearing the disturbance and they found her lying on the ground bleeding heavily from the mouth.”
The court heard the victim had no recollection of the moments leading up to the fight between the pair and no recollection of being knocked unconscious.
Smith, of Brinkburn Square, Newcastle, pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent following the violence on February 25, 2023.
Paul Rooney, mitigating, said Smith had no previous convictions and had stayed out of trouble since he was arrested 20 months ago when he was only 19.

Recorder Ayesha Smart sentenced Smith to two years in prison suspended for two years after he entered his guilty plea.
She said: “Clearly, this wasn’t a fight you started, I have seen the injuries that you sustained, but this was clearly a fight that you finished.
“The victim can’t recall her involvement. A witness saw you kick her to the face and you accepted, quite frankly, that you kicked her three times and the final blow caused her to be unconscious.”
Smith was also ordered to attend 25 rehabilitation activity requirement days, carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and pay £300 in compensation to the victim.
