Viking legends and Norse horrors are set to come alive in York.
For two nights only, the Jorvik Viking Centre will host Dark Saga tours on October 30 and 31, offering visitors a rare chance to explore the shadowy side of Viking mythology in an immersive, storyteller-led experience.
Mark Jackson, head of operations at Jorvik Viking Centre, said: "Viking mythology is full of mysterious creatures, treacherous behaviour and brutal slayings – and we’ve picked out the bloodiest for this Halloween’s special tours.
"For two nights only, we’ll be parking up the Time Capsules that normally take visitors back to the 10th century, and walking around the streets of Viking-age Coppergate.
"That in itself is a unique experience, but add in our fantastic storytellers bringing the myths and monsters to life – just as the Skalds would have done 1000 years ago – and this makes for an evening you’ll never forget."
Visitors will journey on foot through the dimly lit, underground streets of Jorvik, guided by storytellers who will bring Viking legends to life with all the drama and darkness of the old Norse sagas.
Mr Jackson said: "They will be walking the streets with the lights turned down and a special soundscape adding to the atmosphere.
"This promises to be a real spine-tingling evening like we have never hosted before – a brand new way to mark Halloween."
The tours, designed for those aged 16 and over, will run every 30 minutes from 7pm to 8.30pm.
Tickets are priced at £25 per person and prebooking is recommended through the Jorvik Viking Centre website.
Visitors are advised to wear sturdy footwear due to uneven surfaces on the tour route.
The evening tours take place entirely underground, ensuring guests stay warm and dry regardless of the weather.

Following the Dark Saga events, the Jorvik Viking Centre will temporarily close from November 3 to 9.
The closure will allow for the installation of a new "time portal" and the launch of the centre’s A Winter Adventure experience.
Tickets for the new winter programme are available now via the Jorvik website.
