Items were stolen from a high street Costa Coffee during a burglary in the early hours of Friday, police said.
Suspects were said to have forced entry into the chain's Houghton-le-Spring coffee shop on Newbottle Street between 1am and 1.30am.
Northumbria Police said a "number of items" were taken before the offenders left the scene.
Staff at the store took to social media to confirm it remained open. A statement said: "We are still open. Our back gate is currently closed due to a break in last night."
Enquiries are underway.
