North East Mayor Kim McGuinness has praised the 'enduring success and creativity' of fashion brand Terry de Havilland, as the label marked its 50th anniversary with a celebration in the North East.

The event took place at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead and brought together leading figures from the worlds of fashion, design, and business to honour five decades of bold British craftsmanship.

Speaking to a packed audience, North East Mayor Kim McGuinness told the event’s audience that the Terry de Havilland fashion brand had thrived in the region since establishing itself here, further building its appeal nationally and internationally.

She added it stood proudly alongside iconic North East brands such as Greggs and Fenwick.

Terry de Havilland, whose shoes have adorned international stars and graced high-fashion runways, has built a global audience from its base in the North East.

One of the standout moments of the evening was the unveiling of a specially designed Aston Martin from the Newcastle dealership, inspired by the brand’s iconic Zap Pow shoe.

This model was famously worn by Amy Winehouse during her 2007 world tour.

Darren Spurling, managing director at Terry de Havilland, said: "The Aston Martin Newcastle design was a true one-off – a fusion of timeless British craftsmanship and our own unique bold British brand and design.

"We were delighted to celebrate with friends on such a special night here in the North East."

The evening also featured the launch of a limited-edition Greggs x Terry de Havilland handbag, blending two of the region’s most recognisable brands.

The bag attracted enthusiastic bids from attendees, raising more than £2,000.

Proceeds from the auction went to the Newcastle United Foundation and the Greggs Foundation.

For those unable to attend the celebration, the brand is currently running a pop-up at Fenwicks in Newcastle.
