Search the Public Notice PortalHundreds of new supported housing apartments are set to be built at a new County Durham housing development.
The latest proposal for the Seaham Garden Village, consisting of 211 apartments, has been submitted for approval.
Local housing developer Karbon Homes said the housing will help people with differing levels of care and support needs. The specialist accommodation will include a 118-unit extra care scheme and two apartment blocks for residents over the age of 55.
A total of 750 affordable homes are set to be built by the housing provider at the development.
The Seaham Garden Village development has permission for up to 1,500 homes, an integrated community health and wellbeing hub, commercial and leisure uses, a business innovation hub, a primary school, public open space, and community allotments.
Sarah Robson, executive director of development and asset management at Karbon Homes, said: “This is an exciting next step in our development of new affordable homes at Seaham Garden Village, bringing a selection of high-quality apartments that empower people with varying levels of care and support needs to live life to the full.
“Paired with existing phases of family homes and flats, this phase shows our commitment to building a mixed community and ensuring Seaham Garden Village offers something for everyone.”
The extra care scheme proposal is set across four storeys around a central private courtyard area. A cafe, hairdressing and treatment rooms, and multi-use spaces for activities are also proposed for residents living in the apartments.
Chris Hale, pre-construction director at Esh Construction, said: “The submission of plans for the extra care and over-55s apartments marks a significant milestone in the wider scheme. It’s an important step towards delivering more supported housing within communities, through inclusive developments that support inter-generational living.”
Alongside the affordable homes, 750 homes are being developed by national housebuilders Taylor Wimpey and Miller Homes for outright sale.
