A person has died after being hit by a train near Darlington station.
Emergency services were called at about 11.45am to the tracks near Darlington. A person had been hit by a train, LNER said previously.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to the line close to Darlington station at 11.45am on Saturday (September 27) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended however sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Lines between Darlington and York are closed with disruption is expected until around 4pm.
A Network Rail spokesperson added: “Owing to emergency services dealing with an incident between Darlington and York, all lines through these stations are currently blocked.
“Trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes, or revised. Disruption is expected until 4pm; passengers are advised to check with their train operator or National Rail Enquiries before travelling.”
