A North Yorkshire care home is set to transform into a scene of suspense and sleuthing.

Hambleton Grange in Thirsk will host a murder mystery event from 2pm on Thursday, November 20, inspired by Richard Osman’s best-selling novel The Thursday Murder Club.

Sandra Anderson, home manager at Hambleton Grange, said: "Our residents love a challenge and a chance to immerse themselves in something creative.

"The Murder Mystery will bring everyone together in such a unique way, and we’re so excited to see our residents, families, and team members joining in the fun – and maybe uncovering some hidden detective talent."

The idea came from the care home’s book club, which recently began reading the novel.

To set the mood, the care home will screen the newly released film adaptation of The Thursday Murder Club in its cinema room earlier in the day.

The murder mystery will invite residents, families, visitors, and staff to step into the roles of amateur detectives.

Participants will work together to gather clues, question suspects, and solve the case.

Guests are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite detective, whether Sherlock Holmes, Miss Marple, Hercule Poirot, or a modern TV sleuth.

The event aims to be more than just entertainment.

It has been designed to encourage residents to use problem-solving skills, enjoy time with loved ones, and create lasting memories.

It also supports the home’s 'commitment to delivering engaging activities' that strengthen relationships with families and the wider community.

Hambleton Grange has offered a full schedule of activities throughout the summer, including outdoor events, garden parties, and social gatherings.

As autumn approaches, the care home is preparing for seasonal events such as the Harvest Festival, ensuring residents continue to enjoy a vibrant programme throughout the year.

Hambleton Grange is one of more than 280 HC-One care homes across the UK.
