The most expensive home in Durham is up for grabs for £2,995,000, according to Rightmove.

A 'lavish' five-bedroom residence known as Fernhill, it is situated in the Crossgate Moor area of the city.

Offering "elegant and spacious accommodation" over two floors, the home is listed for sale by Northwood Urban Base Executive.

Its ground floor houses a grand reception hall, three drawing rooms, an office, and a well-appointed kitchen complete with an Aga.

The first floor has five double bedrooms and two luxury bathrooms.

One of the bedrooms is currently used as a games room, boasting a full-sized snooker table and panoramic views.

Estate agents Northwood also highlight the property's "Exquisite interior design throughout".

The exterior landscaped grounds provide discreet enjoyment.

The main house is accessed by a private gated drive, and is 'discreetly enclosed' by a thick belt of mature trees and shrubs.

Estate agents describe the property as offering "the most luxurious accommodation within a very private setting rarely found in the historic City of Durham".

It has planning permission for redevelopment of the stables, offering potential for future development.

The council tax for the property is listed under Band G, costing £4,060.10 per year.

Viewings are by private appointment, by contacting the agents' Durham City Office, Northwood said.
