Teesside Hospice hosts 'The Traitors' themed charity event

Teesside Hospice has decided to run its own 'Teesside Traitors' event, bringing 20 people together to compete for the title of Teesside's 'most Faithful'.

It is inspired by the popular TV show which sees host Claudia Winkleman pick at least three contestants to be called 'Traitors', while the rest are designated 'Faithful'.

Everyone competes in games throughout the day, with different tasks, and meet at the end of each day to vote and banish who they believe is a Traitor. The Traitors meet during the night to 'murder' a fellow Faithful.

The aim is to maintain a Faithful appearance or betray fellow players as a triumphant Traitor. The last people standing win the prize pot.

Teesside Traitors will take place on Friday, October 10 from 10am to 4pm at Project Escape in Middlesbrough. It will have players completing missions, enduring mind games at the infamous 'round table' and testing their strategy skills in a range of deceitful activities.

To raise sponsorship for Teesside Hospice, registration fee is £50 per person. The fee includes a breakfast, lunch, and the three activities, including an escape room and mini golf session, as well as the chance to win a share of the £150 prize pot, funded by donations from sponsors.

Once the game has begun, players will be able to earn points by completing tasks as a traitor or a faithful.

At the end of each activity, participants will vote for their fellow traitors, meaning they will lose a point for every vote they receive. To end the day, there will be a final round table to discuss suspicions and decide who is the 'most Faithful Teessider'.

Community fundraising manager for Teesside Hospice, Tilly Roberts, said: "It's loosely based on the TV show because it's very trendy at the moment. We wanted to put a twist on it and raise money for a good cause.

"The tasks will contrast each other and you've got to try get as many points as possible. There's going to be a similar character to Claudia Winkleman there too, and everyone will wear a cloak. It's a nice, fun team day out."

If a player has been guessed as a traitor, they will lose a point. Similarly, anyone who is a traitor, and does not get guessed, will gain a point.

No one will be voted out of the game, but the only way to win is to receive the greatest number of points, survive the final four and not get caught out.

The top four players with the most points will go to the final to decide if everyone is Faithful or a Traitor is amongst them.

Once finished, players will reveal themselves. If all are Faithful, the prize pot will be split between the winners, but if a traitor is amongst the winners, they will take the £150 themselves.

Tilly added: "After this event, we're hoping to roll it out as a corporate team bonding activity.

"All the money goes to the hospice, and we've got a sponsor for the pot so that's provided for. They have the chance to win that back.

"All the money comes to us, and every little helps in the hospice. It helps with hours of care for our inpatient unit, our bereavement counselling services, the wellbeing services, all that."
