Thousands of new students are set to ignite the economy of a North East city and surrounding area.
The University of Sunderland will welcome students to the city for Freshers’ Week, with events and activities organised by the university and YourSU, the student union.
YourSU President for Sunderland, Ade Adeoye, said: "We are excited to welcome all the Freshers to our amazing city as they embark on their incredible student adventure.
"YourSU has a fantastic line-up of events planned to have you feeling right at home in Sunderland."
Sharon Appleby, Chief Executive at Sunderland’s Business Improvement Districts (BIDs), said: "It’s great to be welcoming the students again this year.
"The influx adds to the vibrancy of the area and with so much going on we like to think that the students will have a great experience while they are studying here.
"The businesses love it when the students arrive as it drives footfall and spend into their businesses and they are very keen to welcome and support the students and to help them to enjoy new experiences in Sunderland."
Freshers’ Week activities include city tours, beach socials, and the annual Freshers’ Fair on September 17.
A wide range of businesses and organisations, including well-known brands like Domino’s, will be taking part.
YourSU will be partnering once again with venue and club Independent to offer wristbands that students can buy that will provide access to 8 nights of events plus a range of discounts at independent bars and restaurants across Sunderland.
Beyond the official events, students are encouraged to explore the wider city, including the Bridges Shopping Centre, the coastline at Roker and Seaburn, and food and drink destinations such as Sheepfold Stables and STACK Seaburn.

The economic impact of students in Sunderland is 'significant'.
A 2023 report from London Economics and Universities UK International estimated that international students alone contributed £74.3 million to the Sunderland Central economy in the 2021/22 academic year.
As part of the Freshers’ Week programme, Team Sunderland, the University’s sports student service, will also hold its annual Sport and Fitness Fair in CitySpace on September 24, showcasing its 30-plus clubs that compete nationally and other sporting and wellness opportunities at the University that students can get involved in.
