A former coffee house is set to be transformed into a matcha tea spot with hopes to bring something “truly special” to Yarm.

UJI Matcha is set to take over the High Street’s former Hobo Coffee House from later this month, serving “signature matcha and a carefully curated food menu”.

The brand previously spent several months operating from Altrincham Market, in Greater Manchester, before announcing the move to a permanent home in Yarm in June.

The unit has been empty since Hobo Coffee House closed in May, having been based there for the last ten years. It has since moved to Padel Up, on Preston Farm Industrial Estate.

Signs have now gone up for UJI Matcha ahead of the opening, although an exact opening date remains unknown at this time.

A statement on the firm’s Instagram states: “After a lot of hard work, late nights and planning, I can finally announce we will be opening Uji Matcha on Yarm High Street the last week in September!

“We will be located in the building that was previously the Hobo Coffee Shop.
