Boosbeck schoolgirl donates hair to Little Princess Trust

Freya-Mae Sanderson, from Boosbeck, donated her hair to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for young cancer patients.

Her fundraising efforts and generous donation have been praised by her community and local MP Luke Myer.

"Cutting off her hair and raising hundreds of pounds for such an important cause will make a real difference to children who need it most.

"She should be really proud of herself for such a generous act."

She was praised by MP Luke Myer (Image: Supplied) Freya-Mae, 13, said she was inspired to take part after seeing the impact cancer can have on families.

She said: "I have a passion for designing hair and love to create new styles.

"I spend a lot of time on my hair but decided I wanted to brave the chop and help children with cancer.

"Cancer is a terrible illness and I have lost family close to my heart.

"I wanted to raise money and donate my hair to try and help.

"When I received my pack, it said you’re not just helping children by donating hair, you’re bringing confidence and a smile to their face and that’s what I wanted to do."

During the hair cut (Image: Supplied) Her mother, Kayleigh Sanderson, said the whole family was "incredibly proud" of her.

Mrs Sanderson said: "I'm so proud of my amazing daughter.

"For anyone who knows her, knows that Freya loves her hair.

"She spends hours designing different hairstyles on herself, her many styling heads, and relatives, hoping to pursue it as a career in the future.

"Having her hair cut short was a huge thing for Freya to do but such an amazing, kind thing too.

"Then to raise so much money as well for an amazing charity, especially at only 13 years old."

Freya-Mae raised more than £400 in sponsorship just three days before her haircut, bringing her total to over £500.

Freya-Mae’s fundraising follows a family tradition of community involvement and creativity.

TreasureKins, the family’s handmade gift and home fragrance business, has become a valued part of the Boosbeck community as they continue to support charitable causes and events.
