Students who sat their GCSE exams this year will receive their results this week.
As students usually only collect GCSE results once in their time at school, you might be wondering what time they will be available.
Whether you’re an anxious student awaiting results or a parent wondering when your child needs to collect their results, look no further.
When is GCSE results day 2025?
GCSE results day will take place on Thursday, August 21 so it’s not long until students can find out how they did.
What time do GCSE results come out?
The government website explains that results will be sent to schools on Wednesday, August 20 and “available to pick up from your school by 8am on Thursday morning.”
However, it said schools will let their pupils know when they can collect their results – this will vary.
Why GCSE grades changed
The government changed the grades issued on GCSE exam papers in 2017 with all exams being graded with the new system by 2020.
How to appeal your exam results
It explained why the change was made: “The shift to the numerical grading system was introduced in England in 2017 firstly in English language, English literature, and maths.

“By 2020 all subjects were shifted to number grades. This means anyone with GCSE results from 2017-2020 will have a combination of both letters and numbers.
“The numerical grading system was to signal more challenging GCSEs and to better differentiate between students’ abilities - particularly at higher grades between the A*-C grades.
“There only used to be 4 grades between A* and C, now with the numerical grading scale there are 6.”
