Did you know Hairy Bikers star Si King opened his first restaurant in the North East not too long ago?

The TV chef from Kibblesworth, known for being the late Dave Myers’ sidekick and cooking partner, launched his solo ‘grab and go’ foodie spot in Sunderland at the end of last year.

Propa, located in Sheepfolds Stables at Riverside Sunderland, is said to serve “the very best of British comfort food with a gourmet twist”.

Si’s latest business adventure, which is only a few minutes’ walk away from Sunderland AFC’s Stadium of Light, prides itself on the “strong footballing culture and tradition of ‘having a pie and pint before the match,'" according to Sheepfolds Stables.

Does Si King from The Hairy Bikers have a restaurant?

The 58-year-old previously explained: “I’m absolutely thrilled to launch Propa! It’s a great way to take our customers back to the tastes and smells that they grew up with and that is part of our North East identity. A food culture to be celebrated and embraced.”

“We’re using only the very best of ingredients that the region has to offer, all sourced from producers that the team knows and this ethos underpins everything that we want to achieve with the food that we produce. We can’t wait to welcome you all.”

The restaurant uses only the North East’s “best ingredients” and everything is sourced where possible within a 50-mile radius, as the team at Propa are "very keen" to support local producers and growers, the official website shares.

It adds: “Propa serves as the custodian of nostalgia through the food we serve, food that the Propa team was brought up on.”

The menu is subject to change daily, but you can see the most up-to-date dishes on the restaurant’s Instagram profile (a link to which can be found above).

Previous foodie creations include curried pork pie, chicken and leek pie, and mac and cheese pie.

Plus sweet treats such as lotus sponge and Biscoff custard, the iconic school cake and more.

“Other half got the mince and dumplings.. amazing he said, he wanted another to take home! I got the ragu and mozzarella with tomato and basil sauce. Just sublime.. stunning pie and the sauce.. I could drown in that beautiful sauce. £24 total which is less than a local takeaway and well worth the 26 mile round trip. Very quick service too. Propa good.. can't wait to go back.”

Another posted in a review: “We visited Propa Sunderland, July 25, 2 of our group had Mince and dumplings with scottie cake and the other 2 had Chicken, mushroom and leek pie it was absolutely top quality and delicious!
