HUNDREDS of children from 17 North East primary schools came together for a summer sports day.
Pupils from schools that make up the Lingfield Education Trust competed in a variety of sports at Middlesbrough Sports Village as part of the Trust’s first mass athletics event.
Amy Young, headteacher of Northwood Primary School in Darlington, spearheaded the organisation of the event. She said: “It was fantastic to see so many different schools that make up our Trust come together for this celebration of sport.
“Sport and friendly competition play a vital role in childhood development, and they reflect the values we aim to instil in our pupils – qualities like ambition, resilience, and teamwork.
“I’m very grateful for all the support I had from sports leaders across the Trust to make today happen, and incredibly proud of the pupils for giving their best effort and behaving with such respect and sportsmanship.”
Pupils from across County Durham, Teesside, and North Yorkshire took part in track and field events, including flat races, relays, long jump, and junior javelin – with a foam dart replacing the traditional javelin.
Nick Blackburn, chief executive of Lingfield Education Trust, said: “Bringing together so many children in a spirit of healthy competition is what our Trust is all about.
“This event celebrated not just athletic talent, but the strength of our school communities – working together to give every child the opportunity to shine.”
