Worker suffers serious injuries at Wilton International

The air ambulance was called after a worker suffered severe leg lacerations in an industrial incident.

Emergency services were called to Wilton International industrial estate in Lazenby at 4.30pm on Thursday, July 3. 

The incident involved a sub-contractor that was using specialist equipment and was injured suffering leg lacerations.

A second colleague was treated at the scene for shock.

An investigation has now been launched by Sembcorp Energy UK, the company who run the site. 

A spokesperson said: “At approximately 4.30pm on Thursday 3rd July an incident occurred at Wilton 10, our biomass power station.

“The incident involved a sub-contractor that was using specialist equipment.

“The injured person sustained severe but non-life threatening-leg lacerations. A second colleague was treated at the scene for shock.

“Immediately following the incident our on-site emergency response, FALCK, attended the scene and administered first aid treatment.

“Due to the nature of the injury, the emergency services were requested to attend the scene.

“An investigation is now underway.”

Paramedics and the air ambulance attended the incident and confirmed the worker was taken to hospital.

A spokesperson for the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) said: "Our critical care team was activated at 4.50pm to reports of an industrial incident at the Wilton site in Lazenby.

"We had a doctor and two paramedics on board our aircraft and they arrived on scene at 5.01pm.



"Our team worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to assess and treat a patient.

"The patient was taken to hospital by a NEAS road crew, accompanied by our team."

A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said: "We are aware of the incident and liaising with police."
