A man has died in a crash involving a van and a HGV in County Durham.
Emergency services were called to a collision on the A690 between Brancepeth and Scripton Gill junction on Tuesday (July 1).
Several police officers and vehicles were seen blocking off access to the road as emergency services worked at the scene.
Police confirmed on Thursday (July 4) that the driver of the van was pronounced dead at the scene.
The HGV driver was taken to hospital as a precaution, but he has since been released.
"Sadly, the driver of the van was pronounced dead at the scene.
"His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
"Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam and has not yet spoken to officers is asked to get in touch by emailing SCIU@durham.police.uk quoting incident number 163 of July 1."

Paramedics also attended the scene, a spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) said: "We were called to a road traffic incident today (Tuesday 1 July) at 11.17 on A690 in Brancepeth, Durham.
"We dispatched one ambulance crew, one specialist paramedic and one duty officer to the incident. One patient was taken to University Hospital of North Durham for further treatment".
