Northumbrian Water has completed a £1.3 million upgrade to its sewage treatment works near Darlington.
The investment was made at the Bishopton site to improve wastewater treatment and help protect the environment.
The upgrade is part of a larger £17 million improvement programme across sites in south County Durham and the wider Stockton and Darlington areas.
Jamie Oyebade, project manager at Northumbrian Water, said: "This work has been part of a wider investment in the area to improve water quality in local rivers and streams through upgrades to STWs.
"The team have worked hard to install the new systems at Bishopton which will also improve water quality at Bishopton Beck.
"There has been an increased presence from Northumbrian Water in the area while we carried out the work and I would like to thank residents for their understanding and patience during this improvement process."
The scheme was delivered in partnership with Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB) and focused on making the Bishopton site more resilient.

The improvements are expected to deliver environmental benefits by safeguarding water quality in Bishopton Beck and downstream watercourses.
Similar upgrade projects have been carried out at nearby sites including Bishop Middleham, Chilton Lane, Fishburn, Sedgefield, Carlton, and Redmarshall.
Northumbrian Water serves 2.7 million customers in the North East region, providing both water and sewerage services.
