A690 crash: Everything we know as one taken to hospital

Emergency services were called to a collision on the A690 and have closed a section of road between Brancepeth to Scripton Gill junction today (Tuesday, July 1).

Emergency services say the smash took place at around 11.17am with pictures showing the road blocked off by police vehicles and cones.

What does the scene look like?

A number of police officers and vehicles can be seen on the A690, blocking off access to the road to drivers.

Has anyone been taken to hospital?

Yes. One person has been taken to hospital. A spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called to a road traffic incident today (Tuesday 1 July) at 11.17 on A690 in Brancepeth, Durham.

"We dispatched one ambulance crew, one specialist paramedic and one duty officer to the incident. One patient was taken to University Hospital of North Durham for further treatment".

What have Durham Police said?

The last update received from Durham Police was that the road is expected to be closed for several hours. We are awaiting a further response from the force.
