Van driver fled scene of Whessoe Road, Darlington crash

Police are still searching for a van driver who fled the scene of a crash in Darlington last month.

Emergency services were called to Whessoe Road, close to the junction with Elmtree Street, on June 7, following a crash between a car and a van.

Durham police say that the driver of the van fled the scene following the incident, which took place shortly after 1pm.

Nobody is believed to have suffered serious injuries in the crash.

Following the incident, an appeal for information was launched on the whereabouts of the van driver.

A full police statement at the time read: "Police were called just before 1pm today (June 7) following a two-vehicle collision on Whessoe Road, in Darlington, involving a car and a van.

"The driver of the van fled the scene following the incident, and enquiries are ongoing to locate him. Nobody is believed to have sustained any serious injuries."

In an update on Tuesday (July 1), the police force said 'the driver remains outstanding' and searches for him continue across Darlington and County Durham.
