A pair in their 70s have been left in hospital after reportedly falling from a bridge.
Emergency services including the air ambulance rushed to Rowlands Gill at about 7pm on Sunday (June 29) where the pair were found injured.
The pair, a man and woman both in their 70s, were taken to hospital for treatment.
Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening and the air ambulance was stood down on arrival.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Just after 7pm last night (Sunday) we received a report that two people had fallen from a bridge close to a premises in Rowlands Gill, Gateshead.
“Emergency services attended the scene.
“A male and a female both in their 70s were taken to hospital for injuries not believed to be life-threatening.”

A spokesperson for the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) spokesperson added: “Our critical care team was activated at 6.55pm to reports of a fall in Rowlands Gill.
“We had a doctor and two paramedics on board our aircraft and they arrived on scene at 7.10pm.
“Shortly afterwards the team were stood down as the patients’ injuries weren’t as serious as first thought.”
