A person has died after being hit by a train earlier this morning.
Emergency crews descended on Northallerton station just after 7.30am, where a person had been struck by a train.
Paramedics pronounced them dead at the scene.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesperson said: “We were called to Northallerton station shortly after 7.30am this morning (Monday) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Officers attended along with paramedics but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
North Yorkshire Police previously confirmed they were in attendance supporting the BTP and ambulance crews
“There is likely to be delays in the area for some time. Please use alternative routes where possible,” the force said.
Disruption is expected across the region until about midday, LNER said.
The operator said: “The emergency services have completed their work following an earlier incident where a person was hit by a train.
“This has allowed all lines between York and Darlington / Middlesbrough to reopen. Whilst service recovers, trains may still be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.
“We anticipate trains will no longer be disrupted by 12:00.”
North Yorkshire Police and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service have been contacted for further comment.
