Two people have appeared in court in connection with an incident which left a baby fighting for their life after suffering serious head injuries.
Amy Cave is charged with allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm after emergency services were called on the afternoon of May 26 when the youngster collapsed.
The 20-year-old, of Waltham Close, Darlington, pleaded not guilty to the charge when she appeared at Teesside Crown Court.
A bail application was to be made for her release from custody.
Craig Neill, of Yarm Road, Darlington, is facing a charge of causing a child to suffer serious physical harm.
The 26-year-old had indicated a not guilty plea to the charge when he appeared at an earlier hearing at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court.
He was not asked to enter a plea during today's hearing.
The critically injured one-year-old was initially taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital before being transferred to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for emergency treatment for a fractured skull.

Paramedics and then police were called to an address in the Branksome area on the afternoon of May 26 at about 1.45pm following reports of an unresponsive baby.
The defendants were remanded in custody until their next hearing, and a provisional trial date was set for October 6.
Following the alleged incident, residents living near Waltham Close told The Northern Echo of their worry and how they are praying the baby will make a full recovery.
One 55-year-old mum-of-two described the incident as “heartbreaking” and a huge shock.
“It’s knocked me sick”, she explained. “To find that out today… it has upset me.”
