The Complete University Guide for 2026 has revealed the national rankings for all of the higher education offerings in the North East and North Yorkshire.
Released on Monday (June 16), the guide shows Durham University topping the charts for universities in the region.
It hopped two spaces up the table from the previous year, and is fifth overall in the country - behind only Cambridge, Oxford, London School of Economics and St Andrew's.
A spokesperson for Complete University Guide said: "Our league tables rank the best universities in the UK, overall and in 74 subject areas, for you to compare universities, whether you're looking to start university in 2026 or are considering Clearing in 2025.
"Our league tables can help by showing you the top universities in the UK and allowing you to sort them by what's important to you."
However, Newcastle University, Northumbria, Sunderland and York St John all fell in ranking compared to last year. The University of Sunderland dropped eight places.
