A man has been fined £,1500 for assaulting a police officer in Durham.
Ian Pallas, 49, of Morton Grange Manor, Pithouse Lane, Chilton Moor, appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, where he pleaded guilty to assaulting PC Ben Emmerson in Durham on April 23.
The court was told that the offence was treated as aggravated due to the victim being a serving police officer.
Pallas was fined £1,500 and ordered to pay £300 in compensation to the injured officer.
No additional court costs were imposed.
Magistrates noted his guilty plea when calculating the penalty, but emphasised that violence against emergency workers will not be tolerated and attracts tougher sentencing guidelines.
