A man has died following a crash in Newton Aycliffe, police have confirmed.
Officers from Durham Constabulary were called just before 5.55pm on Tuesday (June 3) to a collision in which a motorcycle collided with a car on Williamfield Way.
Police say the 23-year-old rider of the bike sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Durham Constabulary have launched an investigation, with the police force saying that an increased police presence will be seen in Newton Aycliffe.
A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is now underway, and residents will see an increased police presence within the area over the next few days.
"Investigators would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dashcam footage of the vehicles prior to the incident.

Paramedics from the North East Ambulance Service and the Great North Air Ambulance also attended the scene.
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to a road traffic incident last night (3 June) on Kirkstone Place in Newton Aycliffe at 5.49pm.
"We dispatched two ambulance crews, one clinical team leader and were supported by our colleagues at Great North Air Ambulance Service."
A spokesperson for the Great North Air Ambulance added: "Our critical care team was activated at 5.57pm to reports of a road traffic collision in Newton Aycliffe, near West Park.
"We had a doctor and two paramedics on board our aircraft, and they arrived on scene at 6.08pm."
