Police presence on North Road and River Wear in Durham

Police blocked off a major road and carried out searches along a pathway by the river in Durham City on Tuesday (June 3) evening.

Officers from Durham Constabulary could be seen parked along North Road in the city at around 10pm, with at least three police cars blocking off part of the road near The Three Bridges pub.

The nature of the police activity is yet to be confirmed by the police force.

Later in the evening, police officers could be seen along the path of the River Wear.

Images of the police presence saw officers standing along the river path, while torches and flashlights from police could be seen looking along the path later in the evening.

The Northern Echo has contacted Durham Constabulary for a statement regarding the police activity in Durham City.
