Pedestrian remains in 'serious' condition after Durham crash

Police, paramedics and the air ambulance were called to Broomside Lane in Belmont at around 11.20am on Thursday (May 29), following reports of a collision. 

Officers closed the road from the Travellers Rest pub to Wantage Road, while paramedics treated the pedestrian at the scene.

Police have since confirmed that the incident involved a pedestrian.

A spokesperson for Durham Police said at the time: "Police were called at around 11.30am today to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian on Broomside Lane, Carrville.

"The pedestrian was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary Hospital at Newcastle to be treated.

"Nobody else was injured, and the road remains closed."

The police force has now confirmed that the pedestrian remains in a serious condition in hospital on Friday (May 30), and the road has since reopened.

A spokesperson for the air ambulance said: "Our critical care team was activated at 11.34am to reports of a road traffic collision in Carrville, Durham.

"We had two paramedics and a doctor on board our aircraft, and they arrived on scene at 11.51am.

"Our team worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service to assess and treat a patient before airlifting them to hospital."

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson added: "We were called to a road traffic incident today (29 May) at 11:22 on Broomside Lane in Belmont, County Durham.

"We dispatched one ambulance crew, one specialist paramedic, one clinical team leader, one duty officer and were supported by our colleagues at Great North Air Ambulance Service.

"One patient was taken to RVI hospital by air."
