A body has been found in the search for missing Middlesbrough GP and Northern Echo columnist Dr Zakariya Waqar-Uddin.
The 44-year-old was last seen in the Chorley area of Lancashire on Monday May 12, but police believed he was heading back to Teesside.
Earlier this week his car, a dark purple VW Touran, spotted in the Low Lane area of Middlesbrough at about 2.30pm on the day he went missing, was found.
Now police searching for Dr Zak, who wrote a weekly health column in The Northern Echo until earlier this year, have confirmed they have found a body.
Cleveland Police said in a statement: “Officers searching for missing 44-year-old Zakariya Waqar-Uddin sadly found the body of a man on Wednesday (May 21).
“Whilst the man has not yet been formally identified, Zakariya’s family have been informed and our thoughts remain with them during this difficult time.
“The death is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
