Pictures from scene of diesel spill on A688 near Darlington

Emergency services were contacted shortly after 11.30am this morning, with pictures from the scene showing a huge police and fire presence. Durham County Council were also in attendance at the incident.

Pictures from the scene also show the large quantity of diesel which has been spilt on the A688.

In a statement, a spokesperson for County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS) said: "The A688 between Raby Castle and St Mary's Church in Staindrop, County Durham will be closed for around two hours.

"This is because a large quantity of diesel has been spilt onto the road".

Durham County Council has now confirmed the road has reopened.

Durham Police were also in attendance at the incident, with a spokesperson for the force saying: "Police are assisting with a road closure on the A688 at Staindrop due to a diesel spillage.

"Motorists are asked to avoid the area and find an alternative route".

Durham County Council said they supported with the clean up after the diesel spill on the A688 near Darlington.
