A man remains fighting for his life in hospital and three teenagers have been arrested after a suspected assault in the early hours of Sunday morning.
A large police presence descended on Wynyard Street in Sunderland just before 1am yesterday (May 18) after reports of an assault on a man in his 20s.
The man, who was discovered unconscious with head injuries, was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition.
Following the incident, three male teenagers between the ages of 17 and 18 were arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to commit grievous bodily harm.
They have been bailed as the investigation continues.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson added: “There will be an increased presence in the area and anyone with concerns is asked to speak to an officer on duty.
