Search the Public Notice PortalDespite ongoing delays and public criticism, developers behind the Scotch Corner Designer Village in North Yorkshire have insisted the retail park remains "on track".
Originally scheduled to open in October 2023, the ambitious retail and leisure destination has faced several setbacks, with the date pushed back to September 2024 before being delayed again to March 26, 2026.
Developers say the opening will mark the completion of the first phase, which will include a flagship Blue Diamond home, lifestyle and garden centre, alongside a confirmed line-up of major retailers.
Brands already signed up include Hugo Boss, Tommy Hilfiger, Levi’s, Calvin Klein, Adidas and Joules.
Despite the confirmed retailers, councillors and members of the public have raised concerns about the pace of progress at the site, with some claiming there has been "little to no work" carried out in recent months.
Councillor Angus Thompson, who represents the North Richmondshire division, has previously voiced his disappointment, while Councillor Stuart Parsons, of the Richmond division, has gone further in criticising both the development’s transparency and its lack of communication with the public.
Cllr Parsons said previously: “The ‘development’ at Scotch Corner has become known as ‘Coming Soon’ in Richmond – that has been the promise year after year for what seems like ages.
“We have no idea what might finally appear on the site as communication from the developers appears to have stopped. It is difficult to know what to say. New jobs will be welcome. Until we know what transport plans are being put into place there is continuing concern about the impact of the development on existing access to Richmond and beyond.
“Scotch Corner roundabout is already congested.”
Residents have echoed those concerns, with many citing the lack of visible construction activity as a red flag.
Nevertheless, developers have insisted that the retail park is progressing well behind the scenes and that the target opening date is still achievable.

A spokesperson for Scotch Corner Designer Village said: “Scotch Corner Designer Village is on track to open March 26, 2026.
“We are very much looking forward to welcoming guests to what will be the major destination in the wider region, with wonderful shops and restaurants set in beautiful grounds.
“We are making very good progress leasing, and we have recently signed up several new first-class retail brands, and everything is on track.”
