The Northern Echo can reveal that the supermarket brand, which has been based at Healaugh Park for around 15 years, wants to expand its shop off Canon Grove.
Aldi has been considering an extension “for some time” and wants to improve the shopping experience for customers in the growing town.
A number of options are being explored on how to achieve this - but no formal plans have been submitted to Stockton Council as of yet.
Yarm Fast Food, which is located beside the store alongside Whitworth Pharmacy, Presto Pizza, and the 3D Leven Park Newsagents, confirmed it has received "no official notification" regarding an Aldi expansion.
The popular Chinese takeaway remains open as normal.
A spokesperson said: “Aldi has been considering extending its store on Healaugh Park, Yarm for some time in order to improve the shopping experience for its customers and is looking at a number of options on how to achieve this.
“Any extension to the store would require planning permission from Stockton Council.”
Aldi remains Yarm’s largest supermarket, followed by Sainsbury’s on Yarm High Street, with Tesco stores located nearby in Eaglescliffe and Ingleby Barwick.
Before Aldi opened in the town, the shop was operated as a Kwik Save, until it was later taken over by Somerfield.
It remained a Somerfield until the chain was ordered to either sell or close the store following a study by The Competition Commission, the UK’s competition watchdog.
The shutters were pulled down at the store and Somerfield branding stripped from the site and then, in 2009, Aldi first lodged plans to redevelop the space.
The building was extended, both at the front and the rear, and the shop re-opened.
The news of Aldi’s expansion hopes comes just days after it was confirmed that the Yarm Post Office at Healaugh Park would be closing later this year.

Bosses have said the offering at 3D Leven Park Newsagents would shut in late September after the operator of the branch resigned.
However, interest in taking it on has been expressed by an unknown retailer.
The Northern Echo has contacted Presto Pizza, Whitworth Chemist, and the 3D Leven Park Newsagents for more information.
