OAP injured in crash involving van on York Road, Hartlepool

Police were called to York Road just after 10.25pm on Sunday (March 30), where a 77-year-old woman, who was crossing the road, was hit by a red Fiat Ducato.

The van had been travelling past Victoria Road towards Middleton Road when the crash happened, according to police.

Police in Hartlepool (Image: TERRY BLACKBURN) The woman was taken to James Cook University Hospital, where she is receiving treatment for a fractured hip, leg and a head injury.

Following the incident, Cleveland Police are appealing for witnesses.

A spokesperson for the police force said: "We would appeal for anyone who was in the area around the time of the collision and who may have seen the pedestrian or the incident itself to contact us.

"Please contact Cleveland Police on the 101 number quoting ref 055678."

In images from the scene, a police cordon was erected and police vehicles attended the crash.

Officers were guarding the cordon for several hours, while police probed the scene. 

The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) confirmed on Monday (March 31) that one person was taken to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough, while the Great North Air Ambulance also attended.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 10.22pm on Sunday 30 March to reports of a road traffic incident on York Road in Hartlepool.

"We dispatched an ambulance crew and a clinical team leader to the scene, and requested support from our colleagues at the Great North Air Ambulance Service, who attended by road.

"One patient was taken to James Cook hospital for further treatment."

A spokesperson for the Great North Air Ambulance added: "On Sunday our critical care team was activated at 10.28pm to reports of a road traffic collision on York Road in Hartlepool.

"We had a doctor and paramedic respond on a critical care car, and they arrived on scene at 10.50pm.

"Our team worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to assess and treat a patient, and the patient was taken to hospital by a NEAS road crew, accompanied by our team."
