An Indian restaurant has come to the aid of Darlington FC women's team after they were left without a sponsor for nine months.
Babul’s in Darlington will now feature on the front of the women's shirts after being named as the sponsor for the rest of this season and the next.
Staff said they are “very proud” to be sponsoring the team and hope their support will not only help this team but the next generation of female footballers.
Shuhel Ahmed, managing director of Babul’s, said: “I have two young daughters, so whenever I can, I support women and girls to show them that it is not just a man’s world.
“You shouldn’t be hindered by sex, this is for my daughters.
“We understand how hard it is for minorities to get opportunities, this for us is similar, we will always stand up for people and causes. We need to show people that anything is possible.”
Mick Dawson, Darlington Football Club’s commercial manager is also celebrating the announcement, he said: “I hope it makes the team proud to wear the shirts.
“The women’s team had been without a sponsor for nine months, and I just don’t see that as right.”
And the players are also pleased to have the support of Babul’s, footballer Emily Taylor, 18, said: “With this business sponsoring our team it supports us to also helps to develop young talent, too.”

Lily Wilkinson, 18, added: “I’ve grown up in Darlington, and it is important for local businesses to support our team.”
