A teenager has died after police were called to wooded area in a County Durham town.
Police and paramedics were called to a forest off Colliery Road in Willington at about 9.30am on Sunday, March 2 after a member of the public had raised concerns about a man’s welfare.
The 18-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
An ambulance and police vans were seen parked at the scene, near the now-demolished scout hut.
Officers confirmed his death was not being treated as suspicious.
A Durham Constabulary spokesperson said: “Police were called at 9.30am on Sunday morning to reports of concerns for the welfare of a man in Willington.
“An 18-year-old man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson added: “We received a call at 9.37am to reports of an incident in the Oakenshaw area of Crook. We sent a clinical team leader and an emergency ambulance crew to the scene.”
