A 15-year-old boy from the North East will appear in court today (February 27) charged with preparing an act of terrorism.

Counter Terrorism Policing North East confirmed the charge was made on Wednesday.

The teenager from Northumberland faces one count of engaging in conduct in preparation for committing acts of terrorism under the Terrorism Act 2006, and another of membership of a proscribed organisation contrary to the Terrorism Act 2000.

The boy, who has not been named for legal reasons, was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today, Thursday, February 27.

He was arrested on February 20 as part of a pre-planned, intelligence-led operation that also involved a home search.
