Questions remain over the future of Darlington’s Estabulo - with the restaurant remaining seemingly untouched one month after signs were taken down.
Estabulo Rodizio Bar and Grill, which opened at the DL1 complex in 2018, was completely stripped out last month after the chain announced a sudden closure and refurb.
The temporary closure announcement came just hours after a previous statement said the venue “can’t wait” to welcome back customers the following day.
Weeks later, logos were removed from the front and side of the restaurant, while its interior remained stripped out with just the bar, wall features, and base of the booths remaining.
And one month after The Northern Echo’s report on uncertainty over the future of Estabulo, the situation remains the same.
The restaurant still has no logos on its exterior, and the inside the restaurant appears to have had no work carried out in recent weeks.
A sign on the door of the venue still points customers to the Durham branch.
The Darlington restaurant has also been removed from the list of restaurants under the location tab of the Estabulo website - although the link for the Darlington venue remains active and states it is “closed for refurbishment”.
As previously reported, the chain, which also has locations in Leeds and Norwich, said it hoped to reopen soon - although no exact date was provided.
At the time, several customers asked questions about the reopening date, saying they had reservations and were uncertain if it would be going ahead.
In late January, Estabulo reiterated that it was closed for a refurb, which it said would “enhance the venue and improve the dining experience”.
It apologised for the inconvenience of bookings being cancelled, and said it “deeply regrets the timing and any disruption this may have caused”.
It said it remained “committed to keeping our customers informed as we progress with the refurbishment”.
Estabulo’s uncertainty follows several closures at DL1, the former Feethams leisure complex, in recent years, including coffee shop Mango Bean, Prezzo, and The Chinese Buffet.

Most recently, Tomahawk Steakhouse decided to close its restaurant, with owner Howard Eggleston deciding it would be “better to pull out” due to “zero footfall” at the complex.
The former steakhouse has since been put up for sale.
