The King has touched down at Teesside Airport ahead of a historic visit to the North East.

King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to visit Middlesbrough for the first time since his coronation with crowds eagerly anticipating the monarch's arrival.

With people lining the streets of the town since the morning to catch a glimpse of the monarch, the royal aircraft landed at Teesside Airport around midday.

Leaving as part of a convoy, the monarch headed from the runway in a car directly after getting off his flight.

It is the first time a reigning monarch has visited Middlesbrough since 1993 and the historic nature of the visit has not been missed by people waiting in the town centre to see him.

Julie Parker, 65 from Stainton, said: “We’ve come to see the king and think it’s absolutely amazing that he’s come to Middlesbrough.

"We’ve had some bad times recently, with the riots, so it’s good to see the community coming together."
