Activities across County Durham this February half term

From forest walks and adventures to learning about history at a museum- there are lots of events and different things to do. 

We have done a short round-up on multiple events across Darlington and County Durham of free or low-cost events to take any children in your family to.

Into The Wild at Hardwick Park

Thursday, February 27

10-11.30am, 12.30-2pm and 2.30-4pm

February Half Term at Hopetown Darlington

Monday, February 24 until Friday, February 28

10am-4.30pm

Hopetown, Darlington (Image: SARAH CALDECOTT) PlayTown at Hopetown in Darlington continues to be open during February Half Term which is free for all kids and families. 

The play area has lots of different parts and aspects for children to play from a construction site to a ticket office and a railway play set up. 

Hopetown also has the current immersive ride 'Experiment' where passengers can virtually be in Darlington in 1825 with the Locomotion No.1s first steam-powered railway journey took place. This is open 10.30am-3.20pm everyday from £5. 

Seed Bombs at The Bowes Museum

Tuesday, February 25

2.30-3.30pm

Bowes Museum (Image: SARAH CALDECOTT) There will be a hands-on workshop where anyone can create their own pollinator-friendly seed bomb using native seeds.

All the needed equipment is provided.

You can use your Beamish Unlimited Pass or Friends of Beamish membership to enjoy this special event.

Family story tour: Deadly Beauty at The Bowes Museum

Thursday, February 27

10.30-11.30am

Bowes Museum (Image: SARAH CALDECOTT) Suitable for families the Bowes Museum is offering a journey through the galleries, exploring interesting stories and fascinating facts behind the art and objects of the Museum's new display and trail 'Deadly Beauty from the Medicine Box'.

It is also free, although booking is essential.

Make a Monoprint at Durham University Oriental Museum

Friday, February 28

1-3pm

Durham University Oriental Museum (Image: THE NORTHERN ECHO) This is a free family event where families can drop in get messy and have a lot of fun. Taking inspiration from objects across the Oriental Museum's galleries, families can create some special keep sakes.

February Half Term at Darlington Library

Thursday, February 27- Friday, February 28

10am-3.30pm

Darlington Library (Image: THE NORTHERN ECHO) There are a number of events being held at Darlington Library over the February half term for children ages eight plus. The events run from £2.50 per child up to £5 per child. 

The events are: Perfect pencil pots, Magical mugs, story board creations and super stickers.
