A County Durham hotel which was previously pinpointed for demolition has reopened under new management.

The Eden Arms Hotel in Rushyford has officially reopened under new management.

Now operated by hospitality group Oyo, the venue is set to welcome guests once again after years of uncertainty, disrepair, and speculation over its future.

Originally built as a 17th-century coaching inn, the Eden Arms has long been a familiar sight for travellers passing through on the A689 and A167.

Over the years, it evolved into a thriving hotel, offering a popular restaurant, bar, and leisure club featuring a gym, an indoor heated pool, and a sauna.

However, like many hospitality businesses, it suffered setbacks during the pandemic and ultimately closed its doors.

In recent years, concerns were raised about the state of the building, with locals witnessing signs of neglect and vandalism.

Despite previous plans for demolition, the venue was saved when it was purchased last year, and now, under the new ownership of Oyo, there is now fresh hope for its revival.

The reopening marks a significant step forward, with Oyo confirming that they are investing in the restoration of the hotel.

The news has been met with optimism from the local community, many of whom have fond memories of the hotel as a gathering place for weddings, special events, and nights out.

Online, the Eden Arms in Rushyford has appeared on the Oyo website, with rooms available from £63, while the Eden Arm's social media page is advertising jobs for a chef, housekeeper, and night duty.
