A work night out turned into a stroke of new year's luck for a mystery Teesside man after a £1 side bet became a £46,000 jackpot win.
The man was recently enjoying a night out with colleagues when he decided to chance his luck and headed to the Grosvenor Casino, off Bridge Road in Stockton.
And it wasn’t long before cheers erupted on the blackjack table when the player beat the dealer with a £1 side bet, turning over an ace and king of spades to become the talk of the office.
This was the first time that the Ace King Progressive jackpot - a side bet where players can win a growing prize pool by being dealt an ace and kng of the same suit as their initial two cards - was won in the Stockton casino.
Speaking about his win, the jackpot winner from Stockton, said: “What a way to start the new year. I am absolutely ecstatic and still in disbelief.
“It was great to celebrate with my work colleagues – my win is now the talk of the office! The atmosphere on the night was amazing and this win has set 2025 off to an incredible start.”
Grosvenor Casino Stockton, which is located at the Chandlers Wharf Retail Park beside Mecca Bingo, recently underwent a huge £850,000 refurb of its entire ground floor.
The reception, electronic gaming zones, live gaming floor, bar and restaurant, and customer toilets were all among the areas given a fresh look during the revamp.

The casino now also boasts a stylish bar and restaurant, located beside its state-of-the-art casino games such as blackjack, roulette, and poker.
General manager Ajith Kuriakose said: “What a fantastic way to kick off the new year.
“There was an electric atmosphere on the casino floor and we are thrilled for the winner. May this incredible luck continue for other players at our casino in 2025.”
