Banks branches across the region have continued to shut at a rate of one a month this year, with the trend to continue into 2025.
Twelve branches across the North East and North Yorkshire have shut down in the last 12 months leaving many customers without a local bank.
Another 12 have been earmarked for closure by various bank brands with the final withdrawals to be made in the 2025, with more closures expected to be announced.
Some areas have seen several branches close including in Richmond and Northallerton where in-person banking services have been decimated over the last two years. And in Whitley Bay four sites shut within months.
Branches in Crook, Richmond, Spennymoor and Whitley Bay will all face the chop in 2025. Some branches have had their closing dates pushed back by a few weeks since they were first revealed to be shutting, but no banks have U-turned on closing branches.
Banks including Lloyds, HSBC and Halifax are continuing to push forward with the move to online banking. The number of people using in-person services has been falling for years as more people switch to digital.
