Plans have been submitted to the council to build 81 new homes in a County Durham village.
Bellway Homes Ltd has put forward a proposal for a development on a 6.14-hectare site east of Stockton Road, Hawthorn, County Durham.
The application was submitted to Durham County Council on December 4.
Developments will include a mix of homes with 21 two-bedroom, 48 three-bedroom, and 12 four-bedroom houses, along with a convenience store which will have 200 square metres of internal floor space.
Before submitting the application, Bellway Homes consulted with the local planning authority on September 18.
Public consultation was also carried out, which included distributing 230 leaflets, a community event, and a feedback questionnaire.
The general public response was mostly negative, but adjustments to the design were made following feedback from Durham County Council and the community.
Bellway Homes claims that the design complies with local and national planning frameworks, including the County Durham Plan and the National Planning Policy Framework.

The plans show that the development will use Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) with features like attenuation basins and swales.
Existing trees and hedgerows will be kept and improved, with more planting planned. About half of the site will be open green space.
The proposed site is close to public transport links, including bus stops and cycle routes.
Plans also include an area dedicated to a community orchard, a play area, and a village green.
The proposal outlines 244 on-site parking spaces, with new access routes for vehicles and pedestrians.
The site is currently used for agriculture and will be drained via the main sewer.
A range of reports was submitted with the application, including a Planning Statement, Community Involvement Statement, Construction Management Plan, Design and Access Statement, Biodiversity Net Gain Report, and Flood Risk Assessment.
The homes will be of 16 different types, offering two to five bedrooms, including bungalows and 2.5-storey homes.
Fifteen per cent of the homes are designated as affordable housing.
The development will be at a density of 27 dwellings per hectare.
The site is near a mix of residential development and open countryside and is close to the Hawthorn Conservation Area.
